Anachronism is at the heart of Guy Maddin's strikingly beautiful films. Famously, the jury of the Toronto International Film festival didn't “get” his first film, Tales from the Gimli Hospital, shot on 16mm black and white film, rejecting it from the festival's selection as “ill-crafted”. Nothing is further from the truth. We also get to see a short film of Maddin's along with a brief introduction to this unusual artist, given in Icelandic by Viðar Víkingsson.
