The unpredictable composer Mauricio Kagel made the movie Ludwig van to celebrate Beethoven's bicentennial in 1970. The black and white film, a cult classic, reflects on the composer's legacy and the way in which his music has been conveniently wrapped up in consumer friendly packaging in later years. The music in the movie consists of many fragments from Beethoven's works, put together in a collage to give the feeling that the listener is inside the deaf composer's head.
